## Question

Mr. Thomas invested an amount of Rs.13,900 divided in two different schemes A and B at the simple interest rate of 14% p.a. and 11% p.a., respectively. If the total amount of simple interest earned in 2 years was Rs. 3508, what was the amount invested in Scheme B?

## Options

- **A.** Rs. 7200
- **B.** Rs. 6400
- **C.** Rs. 6500
- **D.** Rs. 7500

## Answer

Option B

## Explanation

Let amount in scheme B = $x$ , then scheme A = $(13900-x)$ . Simple interest formula: $\text{SI} = \dfrac{P \times R \times T}{100}$ . Total SI over 2 years = Rs. 3508: $\dfrac{(13900-x) \times 14 \times 2}{100} + \dfrac{x \times 11 \times 2}{100} = 3508$ . $\Rightarrow 28(13900-x) + 22x = 350800$ . $\Rightarrow 389200 - 28x + 22x = 350800$ . $\Rightarrow -6x = -38400$ . $\Rightarrow x = 6400$ . Amount in Scheme B = Rs. 6,400.
